Two Sisters Garage Sale This Weekend

I swore I would never do this again. Yet...here I am.  It is quite the dichotomy. I love yard sales but I hate having them. Weird. I would just rather donate to Goodwill than hold a yard sale. Stacey has lured me with her sweet talk to give it another go...in her town of Palouse...with her wonderful town folk (and they are). So it's happening people.

Stacey and I didn't grow up having yard sales. I can't think of one time my mom decided that that sounded like a good idea. Which is quite hilarious now...every member of Sisters Creed...will swerve and screech to a halt at a yard sale sign. Even all the Sisters Creed Juniors (our kids) can spot a garage sale sign a mile away. My daughter, Reilly, can even go to a garage sale, peruse, and pick up things for our business all on her own. She's got the eye. I love it. She will be on the junking trail for me this weekend while I am at Stacey's.


When we were kids we would  stop at yard sales whenever my Nana and Great Grandma came to visit from Denver or if we were visiting them. It was quite the experience. My Nana is from the South and her enthusiasm and alarming inhalation of breath from out of nowhere  would make you think we were about to be in a deadly accident...but nope it was just a yard/garage full of good stuff. She would go around showing us all the priceless treasures that "these fools" were practically giving away. Then she would load up her enormous sedan and head to the next sale.


When our family moved to Kansas City we learned the joy of road side finds. My mom had the most hilarious set of friends...Avis and Brenda...who were some of the first "house flippers" in the 80's. They used to redo the most beautiful homes and loved to cruise the Ward Parkway area (the rich area) and pick up items people were putting out on the road in the trash. Amazingly beautiful things. I was in high school then and was slightly humiliated to actually get out and pick something up off the curb but I did have fun riding around with them and they taught me a lot. I was thinking about that the other day as I picked up a "free" item off of the curb. Avis and Brenda would be proud.


People change...I was just rereading my last garage sale post on my own personal blog from nearly 5 years ago. (It took me that long to recover...and boy have I come a long way)

Good News: I had a Garage Sale this weekend.

Bad News: I had a Garage Sale this weekend.

Good News: I sold a load of junk and made money.

Bad News: It was excruciating, mind-numbing hellish torture to do it.

I have NEVER had a yard sale before and believe me I am in no rush to do it again!! The idea was that Tyler was going to help me with the running of the yard sale...umm...didn't happen. He ended up being very "busy" on Friday at work and having to work on Saturday too. So that left me with all the pleasure.

 Here are a few of the highlights:
 -People attempting to steal from me...I got more savvy as the first day wore on.

-People smoking and throwing their cigarette butts in my yard.

 -People bugging my dog...had to put her inside. Apparently Mrs. Beasley was freaked out by the "interesting" people too.

 -The lady who while complaining that $1 for a Ralph Lauren coat was OUTRAGEOUS her dog peed on my box of books.

  -The man who yelled "WHERE'S THE MAN STUFF? THIS IS ALL GIRLY $%@!"(Well kind sir... the man of the house wouldn't part with anything he owned so "girly $%@!" it was).

-The woman who "tsked tsked" me for all the "nice" stuff I was selling and how people just don't keep anything anymore and it's that kind of attitude that is ruining America.


-The man who kept asking me if I was divorced...NO...Did I think I would be getting divorced anytime soon? (Uh...maybe if I ever have to do a garage sale by myself again!!)
 
-The well-dressed and bejeweled middle-aged lady who bought an Ann Taylor Sweater for .50 cents and a Banana Republic Shirt for .50 cents and 4 books (new titles) at .25 cents a piece... who when I told her the total was 2 bucks she said (big sigh) " Well...I guess I won't eat today".

-The two motorized wheel chair ladies who kept pointing their canes at things and yelling at me "What's that?" A rice maker. "I want it!! Get it!!". Those two had me jumping and fetching everything I had all the while yelling at me. Tyler came home on his lunch break to see how things were going and nearly keeled over laughing.


These were but a few of my many "interesting" experiences. I also met the coolest brown-haired (love it) elderly southern lady from Texas. I recognized that soft Houston accent right away and we seriously bonded.

So it wasn't all bad...not good...but not all bad. But it felt pretty bad. I do have a clutter-free garage and basement now. Yay me!

 So folks that was my last garage sale five years ago. I can only hope that this weekend will as colorful and exciting. I love that I have now morphed into one of those "interesting" yard sale people and am now even known as a "regular" who recognizes and enjoys the company of other "regulars" at all the yard sales in my area.

As all members of Sisters Creed are no longer in the baby making business we've got loads of kids stuff to sell along with household items, furniture, decorative items, vintage things...you name it we probably have it.

The Romance Your Home Vintage & Garden Show

 On Saturday Sisters Creed had the pleasure of being vendors at a brand-new vintage show in Post Falls, Idaho put on by the delightful Sharon Blythe. We enjoyed being a part of the show. It definitely got us excited about warmer days ahead, decorating for Spring and Summer, getting outside and entertaining, and working in our gardens. There were fun vintage finds and beautiful plants for sale. Everything looked beautiful inside the events center.

We enjoyed meeting new friends and customers and visiting with old friends and customers!! We absolutely love talking with all of you. Thank so much to all of you who introduced yourselves and let us know that you read our blog or follow us on Facebook. We love it and truly appreciate all of you!!

Next on the docket...not an official Sisters Creed Sale...but we will be having a family yard sale in Palouse, WA. Time to really Spring Clean!! It will be the same week that Palouse has an antique car show show so there should be a lot going on in town. :) Then more vintage shows throughout the summer and fall. We are very excited!!

Romance Your Home Vintage & Garden Show

The vintage sale season is in full swing!! Love it! Funky Junk was a great kick-off and now it's on to the Romance Your Home Sale which is TOMORROW (April 28th 9am to 6pm) in Post Falls, Idaho at the Greyhound Event Center. I am a little behind on blogging about this because it has been crazy two weeks around here...in-laws in town, track season beginning for my son, Kameron, my daughter Bryn's birthday...so many projects and so little time since Funky Junk.

But don't worry!! Our booth will be brimming with PLENTY of new DARLING merchandise tomorrow. We have been BUSY! Come check out this brand new Vintage show and see all the cute things we have in store for you!!

Spring Funky Junk 2012

I know I say this every time but we REALLY love being vendors for The Funky Junk Antiques and Crafts Market. This show is so much fun. Hollie Eastman and Jennifer Wood...and all their crew are simply fantastic. Thanks so much to all of you who attended the show. There was an amazing turn out. We can't thank you all enough. Funky Junk customers are the BEST!! We loved meeting you, reconnecting with you, hearing your stories, and finding out what it is you love and collect. It was the best possible way to spend a weekend. Funky Junk really is Love.Fun.Junk. ...add to that lots of laughs and big hugs...and cupcakes. Yum. Oh yes...Sweet Frostings Blissful Bake Shop was in the house!!

Funky Junk Antiques Show THIS WEEKEND!!

The Funky Junk Antiques Show and Crafts Market is this weekend!!

We are so excited to be joining so many talented vendors...not to mention the lovely Funky Junk women themselves...Hollie and Jennifer...at this FANTASTIC show. We have a booth that will be stocked full of all kinds of wonderful and stylish items for you to take home and enjoy. We can't wait for you to see what we have in store. You are going to LOVE IT!! Work Weekend

Last weekend was a Sisters Creed work weekend. Stacey and I and various children traveled to my mom's house in Sandpoint, ID for a weekend of serious business...sort of.

I let Ailey skip school on Friday and brought her up with me so she could have a little one-on-one time with Grandma. We arrived Friday morning and Stacey and her two kids didn't come up until Friday evening so Ailey had Mom and Grandma all to herself. Boy! Did she have a ball!! She hasn't stopped talking about it yet.

When we got there we checked out all my mom's latest projects. It seems that after the holidays we all wanted to redo some things...and we are all going gray. Gray is definitely the color dujour right now. My house is transitioning from pastel and light...to more of a Scandinavian feel with a light gray and white color scheme. My mom's house is all kinds of gray...charcoal, light gray, greige...it's pretty fantastic. (Mine is still a work in progress.) She has redone the master bedroom, master bathroom, made changes in the living room, and guest bathroom, and turned a closet into amazing office space, and refinished several furniture pieces. She has also been doing all kinds of things with architectural salvage.

I meant to take pictures of other areas but somehow in the course of the weekend...didn't. But here are a few of the living room, dining area, and random projects.

Wall display that is still a work in progress. Items include: one half of a coffee table, frame of an old dresser mirror minus the mirror turned upside down, small ornate mirror turned upside down, empty frame surrounding a family photo, and another salvaged bit. More to come...you will have to stay tuned.

After oohhing and aahhing over all Mom's latest projects we went into Sandpoint to do some shopping and to have lunch at the Pie Hut. (502 Church Street)

This is only one half of their display. I have had several varieties...all delish. That day was all about the Coconut Cream...Ailey had the Chocolate Cream. Yum.

Then it was back to my mom's house. We spent the rest of the afternoon up in my mom's studio. It is one of my favorite places to be...half of it is a huge playroom and sleeping area...tons of beds tucked into little window niches, trundle beds, antique youth beds. Ailey was thrilled to get first choice of beds...and first choice of sheets. This is so hilarious. My mom has quite the amazing sheet collection and our kids LOVE picking out which sheets they want to sleep on. Will it be the flowery sheets, polka dots, stripes, dinosaurs? Then they pick out which cuddly blanket they want as well. It's all about the simple pleasures. Ailey quickly got to work making note cards, posters, "bed" place cards (for Aunt Stacey, River, and Dane) She had markers, stamps, all kinds of ink pads, and was in hog heaven..."creating".

That evening Stacey and her kids arrived and even more fun was had. The kids played hard and so did we. We got so much done!! We painted and painted and painted...all kinds of objects and multiple booth props (purchased at the Two Women Christmas Sale from Funky Junk Jennifer.) My mom was sewing like crazy. We also did paper crafts. There will be some really cute things for sell at Funky Junk. We were up until around midnight laughing, painting, and crafting. Things got quite campy the later it got...

There is a glimpse of the darker and campier side of Sisters Creed. If only you could have seen how we looked too...it wasn't a pretty sight...ergo no photos. (Hideous paint splattered work clothes, paint splotches all over us, no make-up, dirty and dusty.) The junking life is a dirty one.

We were also thrilled to finally have some signage. (We had one small sign that people kept trying to buy.) Thanks to Erin of Ladybird Creations for the info and advice. They turned out great!!

The Vintage Show Season is Here

Woohoo!! We are so excited. So many fun vintage shows are just around the corner. We can't wait. We have been busy since the holidays creating/finding/revitalizing some darling items. We think that you are going to love them!!

Stacey and Victoria at our last "business meeting". (It is so much fun to share a business with my mom and sister!) We met at Stacey's house two weeks ago for a little creating... and a little planning...and a lot of fun. We have another "business meeting" at my Mom's house in two weeks. Can't wait!!

So for now our houses are wrecks...projects are in the works...inventory is everywhere...and excitement is in the air.

First up...


This show is going to be spectacular. Funky Junk is going urban!! Jennifer and Hollie have found a new location for the show. It will be held downtown Spokane at The Spokane Public Market, April 14th and 15th. It should be so much fun. Come check it out!! There will be the most amazing vendors, incredible finds, and cupcakes from Sweet Frostings Blissful Bakeshop. It doesn't get better than that!! You won't want to miss it.

We have another show in April put on by our sweet friend Sharon Blythe:
